Today is Safer Internet Day 2014.
Safer Internet Day (SID) is organized by Insafe in February of each year to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people across the world.
Social Media can be such a scary thing for parents. Our kids are so far ahead of us.
Especially if you have teens or tweens.
The solution: ARM YOURSELF WITH KNOWLEDGE!
Do your research on the latest social media. Sign up with Twitter, Instagram, Vine, or Facebook.
Make sure that you know what Apps are installed on your kids’ phones or tablets. My kids have signed contracts with us in order to have phone privileges. They know that if I walk in a room and they close out of the website they are on, it’s grounds for immediate loss of privilege of that device. What it comes down to is: They are minors living under my roof and I have the authority.
Yes… It may sound harsh.
No… It’s not easy.
We do it because we love them and want to protect them.
So, off you go parents. Arm yourself with knowledge. Learn about social media and foremost – talk to your kids about social media.
